Rest assured, regardless of what you may have been hearing there is no gas shortage in Chattanooga. Last night, apparently spurred by some reports on Rock 105 and US-101, motorists flocked to local gas stations to fill up, in anticipation of a rumored price hike due to the hurricane. Out of fear of running dry, many stations were rationing gas purchases to no more than 10 gallons.
As of Friday morning though, gas prices have not gone up all that much and there still seems to be plenty of supply. WDEF News 12 published an article on gas price facts late last night, to try and quell some of the fears and panic. The bottom line: Hurricane Ike has caused several oil rigs off the coast of Texas to shut down, but that won't have any effect on the gas supply for months.
