water leak in the cargo area

« on: January 29, 2014, 02:46:51 PM »
The back of my 86 golf leaks when it rains.  The tire and back compartment get water in them. I have no clue of how the water is entering.

•   I removed the light housing and applied 100% water resistant silicon around the light housing
•   I Applied silicon to the hatch frame were the side and back panel meet.
•   The hatch gasket is in good condition.

Any recommendations???

The window? Seems like a logical place if the seals are giving trouble.

Or possibly around the wiper or door lock. Just a thought.

Does it have a sunroof?

My hatch leaks too but I'm pretty sure my seal is bad.

Window seal are ok. No sun roof  will check the door lock and wipper. I notice the passanger side has most of the water

Wiring harness?  Seen a lot of leaks there where the harness goes from body to hatch
