Radio Code

« on: December 15, 2012, 08:08:17 PM »
I got a stereo for our 96 Passat at Pull-A-Part today.  I've got the VWZ # and the VIN of the car it came out of.  How can I get the code?  Once I have the code, what's the process for programing it?

PS.  It's a VW Premium III with cassett and CD changer control.

Thanks Travis!   ;D

I sent you a PM with the radio # and VIN from the car I took it out of.  Do you need the VIN of my Passat instead?  If so, I'll have to get that tomorrow.  Well, I guess since it's after midnight, that technically would be later today . . .

Travis got me the code and yesterday I attemped to enter it, but didn't have any luck.  After reading a bunch of post on the internet and watching a couple of youTube videos, I finally figured out the "Program" button has nothing what-so-ever to do with entering the code (it's only used to program your preset stations).  On this radio, I had to press and hold "Seek" and the "Scan>" buttons to get to the code, then after entering the code with the 1,2,3 and 4 pre-set buttons Press and hold "Seek" and "<Scan" . . .  Wa-la!  A working radio!!!  Sounds great too!   ;D

But it would only pick up about 3 stations.  ???   Then I realized the antena was missing.  I picked up one at AutoZone for about 8 bucks and now it picks up EVERYTHING in the Chattanooga area and at least one Atlanta station.   8)  :vw:

You have to buy a whole new Jeep just for a radio?

The changer goes in the trunk, doesn't it?  Wonder how much trouble it would be to run the wiring harness?

How much do you want for it?

You can have it, if I can find it...  ;)

Running the harness is just a matter of hiding it in the interior morsels, finding one will probably be the real issue. However, you may get lucky and it already be in the car.

Well, the price is right!  If you run across it, let me know.   ;D

And, nope, not that lucky . . . I had this car stripped to the firewall this time last year putting a heater core in it and there was no CD changer harness.   :(

But, I didn't look at the car this radio came out of . . . someone else had already pulled it out of the dash.  I might take a trip back to Pull-A-Part and check it out.  Any excuse to go to the junk yard.  I love the smell of rusty cars in the morning!   ;D

Any day that it isn't raining before next Thursday . . . after that I have to go back to working for a living, so I'm limited to weekends.  When do you want to go?
