A tow bill is cheaper than a head gasket,  one test is to take the small hose off the reservoir and run the rpm up to 2000 and see if you have a good stream of coolant,   If the system is full and no flow most likely a water pump

I was looking over the bike route for yesterday's Ironman. They biked from the riverfront down 193 to West Cove Rd before making a loop back up to 193 via Hog Jowl Rd. Looks doable. So just toss your bike up on the roof of the Passat and limp it as far as it can go, bike home for a while, bike back, limp again...etc until you get to Sal's. Then you just bike home! Easy Peezy!

Way easier than plumbing!!!  ;D ;D ;D

I had a brief moment of sanity and had it hauled to Sal's place on a rollback the other day.  When it got there, the water pump wasn't pumping ANY water.  I'm glad I didn't try to drive it there!  It's now got a new water pump and timing belt kit installed, the correct coolant and a fresh oil change.  Thanks Sal!  And thanks for all the advice Travis!

Now I need to fix the headlights.  They are pointing at the ground a few feet in front of the car and something in the housings is broken.  It's no fun to drive at night. On bright, you can see about 10 feet.
