I think I've figured it out!  We're just hooking the pumps up backwards.  The old pumps "pumped."  The new ones "suck!!!!"

changed oil,  look for old fuel valve, unable to find, put gas i car,  still not getting a idle, goona clamp the line between the fuel pump and carb to eliminate one  and see if it is still leaking. installed headlight trim

messed with the thing, put some gas in it, pretty sure the fuel pump is shot again, goal, to drive to cyw

It would not fit between the manifold and the block, i even tried to take the carb loose

I have seen that once. It turned out that some of these styles of pump with inlet or outlet coming out the top of the pump would not go under the flange that the carb sits on due to the later style of intake carrying the 34mm carb being to fat compared to the earlier DP intake. Compare your old pump to the new one. You may have to use the shorter Alt angle pump/push rod or find a pump with the pipes coming out the side (old style).  Remember, You are up there and I'm down here so I can't see it ;D

GOT THE CORRECT FUEL PUMP AND ANOTHER REBUILT CARB ON THIS WEEKEND, fired it it up after finally getting gas to the carb, idled great, lost the throttle cable holder in the grass #$@%!

That sucks. I have lost those before. I would say rob one off the heater box til you can get another one. I have since picked them up for about a buck each at the swaps and keep a few in my toolbox just in case!

got the thing running today, thanks rick, drove it to taco bell to find oil leaking fron under the gen shroud, guess the oil cooler seals are bad :(

got the oil cooler seals in engine back together and in the vehicle, found the little tin in my parts dept that blows the sir from the oil cooler threw the front tin insted of blowong it on cly 3, really wanted to clean the motor up, but i would also like todrive it, registration had expired sept 2010
