Can you make a " Thing Angel" in the snow? Just crawl under it and flap your legs.

brushed the snow off and started her up, moved a little to find a flat tire, the cold weather has prevented me from playing

got the tire aired,  no started, check the gas, no gas, ?,  go get some gas, get the thing started, look for leaks, , found gas blowing out the breather, gas is in the crank case, great!

Look very closely at your fuel pump . The biggest culprit for things like that. Then the needle and seat in carb.

I replaced the fuel pump about a year ago, but that does not mean that it has not failed, would you just remove the pump and see if there is gas residue on the bottom of the pump

The last time I needed a fuel pump for Joy's convertible, I bought one that turned out to be bad right out of the box.  The second one lasted about 2 months before the piviot pin worked it's way out.  The third one finally worked and held together.  Quality Control just ain't what it used to be . . . ???

Two biggest problems i have seen with early failures it seems have been fuel pumps and the Taiwan made Cetrifugal advance distributors.

I  miss the good German stuff.   :(

You are absolutely right, Zen.

A long time ago, You could buy a rebuild kit for the orig. German pumps. This is what we had to do at the dealership.

50 or 60 bucks to rebuild a German pump might not seem like a bad deal after buying three or four Brazilian pumps that fail right off the bat.  Of course, if the kit is new, it might not be any better than the pumps they are building now . . .  ::)

found the ful pump stand full of gas when i pulled it off,  new fuel pump and oil change, guess i got alittle bit of a engine flush.  prob pull the carb back off and rebuild it or break down and buy a new one.  replace the fuel filter and possibly treat the gas tank,  tired of the heal toe driving, gotta get it idling

My 1300 DP seems to have the OEM VW pump on it with the removable filter in the pump.
I am watching it to see if the etho is going to kill it.
Does any one know if the rebuild kits out of Brasil (with E85 gas) are resistant to the etho?
Thanks.  So far no leaks and the inner screen was clean as a whistle when I pulled it 2 weeks ago to check it.
