I do need to get that engine from you...
It looks a little different now, some flat white paint on the hood and drivers door area, IDK why. Going to use lacquer thinner and see what they did to it...

It has a Safari front window from Wolfgang International. Impressed with quality of kit with the exception of the track mounts on the side, they are flimsy stamped thin steel that is rivited to the pillar. I see a nice aluminum angle refab in the future.
Thanks,
KC

Questions for Travis and David...

« Reply #391 on: February 28, 2013, 09:40:51 PM »
Travis,
Is the engine you sold the car with the same that was in the car when you got it?
David,
It appears from the samba that the Vin for my car was a VERY late November 1961.
The # to the engine that is in it is a VERY early December 1961 engine #.
My question is this, is this the OEM engine?
I cannot immagine the odds of getting an engine that even the sometimes flawed Samba databases states were made with in 2 weeks of the shell...
Hummmm.
David - Put on your way back hat and tell me if this is possible.
I just cannot imagine that an engine that is this close to being perfect just found it's way into the bug in the past 52 years....
BUT stranger things have happened.

I guess it would be possible. Stranger things have happened at sea. I'm surprised that the car isn't titled as a "62. Shoot me some numbers and I'll check my original factory vin/eng. # book. Does your engine have the "dirty air" heater boxes ?

It is titled as a '62.
No Idea on the heater boxes, it now has J tubes and a merged header...
The dog house is not a blower one though.

What do you mean: It's not a blower one ?  No fresh air outlets ?   If not ,you could used the later heat exchanger box's and a '64-66 fan housing.

It is a dog house that has a "no fresh air blowing" dog house on it, no fresh air outlets.
I'll get you the #'s and some updated photos.

I may drive it to the gathering tonight.

Sold the '62.
It is that time of year!
Got the bus back from having the oil cooler replaced.
Had the case bolts and head bolts checked, new heater boxes put on and the exhaust sealed up. Also put all new engine compartment seals on and all the engine seals replaced.
Engine is supposed to have only ~30K miles on it and it looks great, it is a true 1500, and the P&C looked great. The heads are super clean and there are no signs of running hot in the rocker area.  It was a nice aluminum color. Took lots of photos when the engine was out, for posterity sake.
Gonna roll the bus and Albert for now.
Gonna buy my BIL out of the Thing project we went in together on so I can paint it a desert Camo pattern, I am thinking a Kubel Clone paint Job...

Bought my BIL out of the thing project and am planning a flat tan desert motif.
Any one want to help with the pans, lifting the body off, etc.

Automotive A.D.D. AGAIN!
I have found a Diesel Rabbit pick up with camper shell.
Needs a head, belt jumped time and ate valves.
Does any one have a head?
The owner has $200 into another head that has been disassembled and cleaned.
It has been parked 10 years or so, so I am thinking Brakes, Injection pump, all hoses, and filters.
I would just have to put the head back together and install.
The cap on the back has saved the bed, it looks good, body is pretty nice.
It is a 5 speed, I understand that is a problem based off of Russ' experience.
Any one on here have any thing good to say about these trucks?
This one even has a title

Why is that a problem?
