I am interested in the Cabrio, but the Eurovan scares me  ;D.
I am still going to do the Ghia.
I got new metal floor pans for it last weekend both sides full pans for $200!

OK,
I have had the Ghia for like 9 months now and have just pushed it around in the yard...
The time has come!
I have everything to put it back on the road as an aircooled (just need to boil out a gas tank or get a new one).
But I am SERIOUSLY thinking on putting a diesel or a 1.8 (non turbo) engine in the back.
This has been done in the past and there is some history on doing it on the web.
I have a line on an '87 Jetta with a 1.8 CIS, new valves, guides, and a 1995 2.0 lower end in it - all redone.
I would love to do a TDI but I feel that a Turbo is going to complicate things too much.
BUT, having said that I would be interested in finding a rolled or totaled in the rear TDI to look at.
If I was to build a dependable daily out of the ghia, it would offset the HUGE GMC 2500 Quadcab I just traded for.
I want to do it right and take my time, so unless it is just a killer deal I am going to stick with the Ghia until it is done as a waterpumper...
I promise  ;D.

Any and all advice will be appreciated and I am really excited about this!
Questions:
1) any one know of a good source for totaled cars (TDI) that way I can have all the stuff I need and maybe able to retro fit allot of stuff to the ghia.

if only you had been at the Oktoberfest at the Market on that Saturday. There was a silver ghia with a sweet conversion. I believe it was a Subaru, but it was nicely done. We didn't know what he had until he popped the decklid and we were all scratching our heads.

I know where a mk4 5 speed is,   But I am not sure that would be an easy swap

I am not interested in the trans, so it can be bad, just want the car to run so I have no fuel issues.
Is the MK4 a diesel?

Tell me more about the Subaru.  Joy's uncle has an 87 Vanagon he wants to put a Subaru boxer engine in.

They drove it into the shop and sold it,  said it had overheated and they had spent a little money fixing it and did not want to spend any more,  not sure what it needs but those engines can be pricey and def worth fixing a simple issue

Picked up a Kennedy adapter for a Subaru for KC at the Bulli Brigade today. Maybe, just MAYBE, he will keep it long enough to convert... Doubtful!

I did see the bus that he traded last week! Same bus, different owner, different state! Kinda cool!!! He had it for well for $5k!!!

Travis,
I'll hace to verify, but apparantly I bought a 1.8 Subie to early bay/T1 trans adaptor.
What is the engine that you guys have at the shop?
I am not as thrilled about the subie engine as a VW, but it has been done alot andt her is just more space than fot the VW engine.
Let mne know as well.
