1835cc, C / W 69mm crank, new stock rods, 92mm NPR pc's, no longer available. Engle 110, stock lifters, 200mm 6v flywheel and clutch, ported / polished stock heads, full flow oil pump with spin on filter, Holley 300 Bugspray carburetor on an isolated ram manifold, Bosch 010 distributor with conventional points and condenser. The 6 volt system was in excellent condition so I kept it that way without going to 12 volts. Several 2,000 mile round trips from Seattle to Sacramento / San Francisco, proved it was a good solid engine.

This is a view of my double door, doors on left and right sides, 63 type II. A rarity by today's standards. Bought it in 80 sold it in 88 when relocating back to Hawaii.

First task was to build the engine, next was removing the 25 gallon water tank under the back seat to save weight and the spare tire was relocated to the front and covered to reduce wind resistance. Coleman stove, ice box. folding table, and 6 inch tv, rounded up the inside. And of course the back seat folded down and made a comfortable double bed. Under the back seat there was enough room to store 5 gallons of water and the small closet gave enough room to put extra changes of clothes and tools, lots of tools. All in all. it was nowhere near as nice as a lot of other VW vans that I've seen but it was more than adequate for me and the wife to go south from Seattle to Sacramento and back, I  never had to break out the tools.
