I'm not sure if its the pumps fault or the carburetor,  the pump is wired to the coil.  Def want to get the right set up

The best way to wire one in, in my opinion, is to run a wire straight to the battery (fused of course) and switch it on and off with a relay with the trigger side wired in line with the oil pressure switch.  You might want to wire a push button "relay bypass" switch to make it easier to deal with just in case the carb ever runs dry.  What this does is shuts the gas flow off unless you have oil pressure.  The pump doesn't start until after the engine starts, and stops as soon as you loose oil pressure when it stops, even if you leave the switch on.

I have an electric pump on every vw I have and have had. The only problem I have ever had is not putting my filter first.

I had this issue,  the float is supposed to push a pin up to  cut off the gas when the bowl is full.  When engine finally starts a huge explosion occurs and raw gas sprays out the tail pipe on Frank, or you ever is in front of the exhaust pipe

I added an extra washer to the float switch,  it seemed to work until I was just turning the key on without the engine running,  only did it for a few seconds at a time but that was all it took

David always said that it was because Americans were lazy. The Germans put the plug on the place for convenience BEFORE you too the screen out. That kept you from getting the black oil bath. Then they started having trouble with the "it doesn't have a filter" crowd turning into the "my engine just seized" crowd. Lazy Americans... I think it was sometime around 73 or 74 if I remember enough of that story. The Germans reinvented it so that you HAD to remove the screen. Blame those that came before you!
