Wax the crap out of it and send a couple of photos to hagerty.
I have LOVED being a customer of theirs for the past 6 years.
Good luck,

Ditto for Hagerty. I've had my beetle covered with them for 3 years. My car insurance said it was to old for them and told me to try Hagerty.

Hagerty won't cover campers so I'm SOL, but they should have no problem covering a Ghia. It will have to be garaged though. Or at least they will need a photo of it in a garage.

does it need to be insured as a collector car? I have my bug and bus on State Farm's insurance. They have always been good to me and when I got the bus, they stated a price that was well above what I have in it, so I felt good about it. I haven't specifically asked about collector car stuff, so I don't know if its under that type of category or what.

$9K on the Ghia Vert, 100K,300K,100K no deductible Agreed value = $137 / Yr.
I had the ASBug insured for $3500 when I got it (minimum is now $5K), got rear ended 3 months after I had got insurance, was paid $2000 to fix car.  They have never raised my premiums, or dropped me.  I was afraid they would not renew when the term was up, but that has been 6 years ago.  Funny thing was after I had car repaired and painted, I uped the insurance to $6K... LOL.
Only restrictions I have are the garage (mentioned earlier) and I cannot drive more than 5K miles a year. I am the one that set the mileage restriction, usually I have 2 or 3 of them insured at 5K miles each so it isn't an issue.
With the vert I may need to reassess this, but they didn't ask for a beginning mileage so I guess it doesn't matter...

I don't drive the thing more than 2000 miles a year,  State Farm covers the thing but they said he ever was in charge of approving collector cars said mine was not restore or running

There was one little spot on one plunger,  cleaned it up real well and put a little Jb weld like bondo,  not sure if it would have leaked or not
