You'd better be able to register it outside of Hamilton County. I had to give up my '98 a few years ago. Not because it actually failed at the tailpipe, mind you, but because there wasn't an OBD plug into. And please don't reply with any rubbings-in along the lines of "why didn't you get a '68 center tunnel with a title or have it in your Grandfather's name or buy a mailbox in Putnam County, etc."
I considered all that. I just didn't think it was worth the potential legalities. For example, if its titled as a '68 off that center tunnel in the backyard, and I wrecked the car, imagine the insurance company saying "this isn't the car you insured".
Besides, it was slow, noisier than any Bug from the 70s, hated cold weather (made without thermostat flaps) and had exceptionally weak air conditioning for a Mexican-market car. Besides, I bought it for $7500 and sold it two years down the road for $8000.
Damn, I wish I could have kept it...
