Just thought I'd pass this along . . . There is a fairly straight/solid looking 81 Rabbit Cabriolet for $1795 at Happy Motors in Ross-Vegas.  If the odometer is correct, it only has 45,000 miles (it has the 100,000 digit, so if this should be correct unless the odometer has been replace or tampered with).  The carpet on the driver's side is worn and the hatch area doesn't have any upholstery, but the rest of the interior is pretty nice for an 81.  The top isn't the greatest in the world, but I've seen a lot worse.  It's white w/white top and maroon interior.  They said it ran and drove great, but might need a clutch before too long.  Of course, I don't know how well you can trust a used car salesman that will dress in a yellow chicken suit and jump up and down shouting "I GOT IT!  I GOT IT!" on TV!    :monkeyshakin:
