It's a pre-1986, so doesn't need a title in GA!  All you need is a bill of sale (I've used one hand written on a piece of notebook paper in pencil), proof of insurance and they will run the VIN to make sure it doesn't show up as stolen.  From there you have to pay 6% (I think that's the rate) tax on their "Book Value" (their book might say it's worth $2000) and the $20 tag fee and they give you a tag.  You can argue the tax, and once in a blue moon they will charge you tax on what you actually paid.  They had Franny's 05 Passat valued at $8000 . . . Joy finally got to the right person and they charged the tax on the $3005 we actaully paid for it.  That was a rare case though.

That'd be a nice one if you could get another engine dropped in it! Too bad it's not a later water cooled one because it'd be ideal to drop a subaru motor in!!!

I'm pretty sure the body of the early Vanagon's was designed for water-cooled engines.  The diesel models were water-cooled and I'm pretty sure they didn't have two different bodies.  I'm also pretty sure that the front half of Kyle's Vanagonagon was an air-cooled 81 Vanagon . . . which now sports a radiator.  It might require a trip to a pull-a-part to get all the pipes, hoses and radiator, but if you are installing a Subaru engine, it wouldn't be that much extra work or expense.
