There is nothing planned as far as a cruise back home really. Your best bet would probably be to just ask around and see if anyone if planning to come back at the same time you are and try to cruise together. You can count on it being about a 3-1/2 hour trip or so in an air-cooled.

I texted the # on the flyer with some questions and they wrote back that they had no idea what I was talking about....
Not very encouraging...

Not sure what's up with that, call or text Adam Griffith, he's one of the organizers. (423) 653-9889

Ok, Will do.
I may just drive up to cleveland and meet up at the bypass / 76 interchange.
Shows about 20 - 30 minutes less driving for me.

How much will the shirts be?

Tested the beetle out this morining after fixing a couple of oil leaks and finding that I had the wrong disto button installed!
It was loose.
I am planning on getting to the plant by 8, but if not Russ, I may call you and see where you are and catch up to you.
I am thinking that meeting you on the cleveland bypass will be a much better choice timewise with the young'uns tagging along.

Alice and I haven't talked about it, but I imagine we'll head back from Helen mid-afternoon, 2ish or 3ish. Anyone else? We're flexible, of course.

Anthony,
At first blush, I'll be interested to leave about that time.
It all just depends on if the girls are having a good time or not.
If they are having a blast, then I may leave a little later, like 4.
But I figure the 3 YO will be burned out by then.

I'll get your # when I see you tomorrow so I can keep in touch with you.
Just don't like driving a 50 yo car through the mountains with spotty cell service alone.

LOL.
I have been trying to find a muffler for a small 3 flange Empi header and every one is out... The stinger will become annoying after 2 hours even with the baffle.

Had allot of fun!
Was telling the guys at work about it and we all got out the maps (they are all motorcycle riders and we determined that wen went through Hog Pen Gap, and that is a popular route.
Car did great, but I am going to have to run the standoffs.
I kept it in 3rd alot on the hills just to keep the RPM's up, and I was still 3-5 psi lower on the oil pressure w/o the stand offs and it was cool on Saturday...

Will make it next year and will stay the night next time.
We made good time coming back and Fish and I were zipping right along.  He was running really lean the entire way and was shotgun backfiring when he let off the gas.
I was popping a little out the stinger when we were at the tops of the mountains.  I had retarded the timing to max out at 30* so as to try to keep the temps down as well.

Car ran great had lots of power, and is obviously larger than a 1600 because I was able to smoke most all the other ACVW's on any kind of a hill with just the 30/31 on there...

Lotsa Fun! Girls had a blast, just would have like to have seen Helen a little more.

We had a great time too! The Rabbit did fine for the trip but the only issue I had was during the parade. It started overheating and burped out a little coolant onto the hot engine, which made it steam a little. When I pulled over and checked, the radiator fan was not kicking on due to a faulty connector. We wiggled it a little bit and it kicked on, after it cooled down it ran just fine again.

Next year you'll have to get a hotel and stay overnight.

HEY, EVERYBODY! What smells like lemon and rotten eggs and can be found in a car? The answer is the smell I couldn't quite place all weekend until I heard steam under my back seat after getting home. That's right-an overheating battery! Who says a VW can't boil over? So, either a bad cell or the voltage regulator is causing it to overcharge to the tune of 13.5V at the terminals.

But, hey, we made it home!

Ah, so that's what that was. I kept thinking I was smelling coolant but I knew that wasn't possible from your car.
