Updates to the Site

« on: July 06, 2011, 04:34:15 PM »
Over the last couple of weeks some site improvements have been made, most notably the gallery is working again. I've installed new software that is much simpler and works, unlike the previous software. Most all of the albums have been moved over. With over 6000 photos this took quite a while but look for more photos to be added soon. I've already found some old discs that contained a lot of photos from Bug-a-Paluza 5 and Bug-a-Paluza 6, so those are added now too.

If you'd like to contribute photos to the gallery, you will need to use an FTP client. Connect to ftp.volksfolks.org with username pictures@volksfolks.org and a password of pictures. Simply create a new folder for each album you want to add and upload your photos. I will then import them into the gallery.

Other new features include a user bar along the top that lets you log in/log out from any page on the site, notifies you of new personal messages, and has some handy links. The homepage has been slightly redesigned to look and work a little better.

On the events page, there are buttons to the right of each event that lets you export each event to Google calendar or download an iCalendar file, which can be then imported into Outlook or iCal.

There's also other various changes and improvements around the site, you might notice some if you look hard enough. ;)

Thanks for all of the work, and I'm enjoying all of the photos.  I hope to add some of my old VW books to the site.

Russ, I have pictures from The Thing Show today but I can't figure out how to make a new folder, it doesn't show up as an option when I log in. I got pictures of every car that came so I'd really love to let y'all see them!

I see where you've logged in but no files were transferred.

hmm. I'll put the pics on dad's laptop, I think he's bringing it with him to decatur and he has a wireless card so maybe we can put them into the ftp site then.

All of the VW commercials that were formerly in our gallery have now been uploaded to YouTube. I've made a playlist here:

The Kubel Treffin photos have been added to the FTP site - I think.  They have been downsized to 1/4 of the original size.
