Free Swap Meet @ Gateway Antique Mall

« on: November 15, 2015, 08:26:01 AM »
There's a free swap meet in the parking lot of the Gateway Antique Mall next Saturday (November 21st).  The flyer says "Antique Engine & Farm Machinery; Automotive Parts & Accessories; Old Advertising Antiques & Collectibles; 8am until ?"

The Gateway Antique Mall is on Cloud Springs Road (one exit south of Wally's).  Take I-75 GA exit 353, turn west on Cloud Springs and it's about 1/4 mile on the right.

Last year I took a bunch of old air-cooled single cylinder "projects" and sold 'em all.  The only thing I came back home with was my 1950 Johnson Seahorse outboard and a 12" planer I bought with the money I earned from selling my junk.  Casey brought a bunch of stuff, including VW parts . . . I can't recall how he did, but I think he made a few sales.  There were some really cool stuff there and a lot of swapping went on when everyone started packing up.

I don't think I'm going to be taking anything to sell this year.  I haven't had the time or energy to clean out the bed of my truck and gather up any good junk to haul up there . . . but that won't stop me from seeing if can find more junk!

I decided it would be best if limited my ability to bring more junk home by taking the Passat instead the of the S-10.  Nick had called and told me there was a Snappin' Turtle mower there, but it was gone by the time I pulled in.  There were lots of cool signs and several hit and miss engines I would love to have, but most of that stuff is out of my price range.  Then I ran across this guy with a Maytag engine running an Ice Cream maker mounted on a heavy duty wagon.  The Ice Cream maker wasn't anything to brag about and he wanted $300 for it . . . but for another $100 he said he would throw in the old Clinton engine running a cast iron pump jack on the wagon next to it. . . .  The next vendor had a pair of Maytag twin cylinder boxer engines.  Both ran and he was asking $225 each.   I decided to go home and get the S-10 and hit the ATM and make a withdrawal from my savings account.

I'm glad this thing is a half hour away from home.  By the time I got home I had talked some sense into myself and didn't go back.  The only thing I bought this year was an old iron wheelbarrow wheel.
