Morgan County, Loudon County, now Monroe County, and I am sure there are potential members in Knox County.

Do we have the start of a club or chapter of SCVF to meet in Lenoir City?  :o

The fellow who sold me my '69 VW Beetle, says he has a list of about VW owners who are interested in getting together maybe monthly at different Sonic Drive-Ins around this area. He is a retired VW mechanic in Sevierville. =D>

Knoxville VW repair?

« Reply #16 on: June 05, 2007, 08:44:46 AM »
I am moving to Knoxville from Jacksonville, FL and I will be bringing my 1974 VW Beetle with me that I'm restoring. You can take a look at my restoration here:  https://home.comcast.net/~mcclint680/bug.html
I've been trying to find classic VW specialists in Knoxville, but my searches have come up empty. Are there any parts places or mechanics in the Knoxville area I could take my car to get work done when I need it?
I'm used to having Eastern Imports and Hilltop Motors in Jacksonville to meet all my VW parts and service needs. I really hope I can find something comparable in Knoxville.

thank you for any information you can provide. I've sent several emails to avwa.com and they don't even acknowledge me.

I'm still suprised that there is not a VW shop in Knoxville. Its a big secret if there is.  Sounds like Larrys in Harriman is going to be your best bet. Maybe COASTIE can tell you more. It appears that he likes his work. I don't know anybody personly in Knoxville with a Bug that could recommend a shop, If there is one, closer in .  Maybe someone else will speak up and help you out.
Where in the world did your Xmas Bug come from ?   That is just about as  cute as they come. Got to have one of those!
Good luck and come visit us and keep in touch.  Put BP-10 on your calender for April '08[/quote]

Thats normall for them.

X2 on larry's , I go there often. I live about an hour out side knoxville and about 15 min from larry's . He is a very experienced VW mechanic.( he built my motor ) They can get you alot of parts you need also.  :D Think they are a TMI dealer now also, if you need interior. There son also has a little shop next door , he does RC cars , stickers , signs , Tshirts , etc. there are a few vw people in the area , but we all seem like we hide for some reason

I know of three more besides Larry's: Dean's Import Service in Knoxville, Bill's something in Blount County near Maryville, and A.G. Karnes in Knoxville. I have heard good things about all of them but so far Larry is the only one who has worked on one of my VW's. I have talked with Dean and A.G. and got a good impression of both. I have seen Bill's. It is looks like a VW junkyard with lots of vehicles so he should have lots of used parts. Also there is a VW junkyard on US 411 south of Maryville. The fellow in Sevierville that I bought my Type 1 is a retired VW mechanic but only works on his own or friends' vehicles. Other than what the parts these shops have, I have found no parts store that specialize in air cooled VW parts. There is www.greenesclassiccars.com/ that sold at least one Type 1 painted to look like Herbie and http://yowautoclassics.com/gl1944.htm that has this one with a Porsche engine. (I wasn't interested in price of Porsche parts and services. I have owned '68 and a '69 912.)

I have been told that AVWA is one person and now he only puts on his three VW car shows each year.

Stay in touch. I hope we can get a chapter of Scenic City Volks Folks or a new air cooled VW club going in this area!

Hey!!   Good luck on getting something going up in your neck of the woods.  Looking forward to seeing some kind of week end camp-out/show thing . I think sometime in the fall in your location would be good. Just make sure you don't step on some other "outing" that would be close by. :thumbs-up:

Thanks. I don't think we would be ready to do an event this year. When we do we will need some help for sure! Maybe you could do a workshop on buying and caring for a VW? :)

We will be sure not to conflict with AVWA and Scenic City events.
