Volks Folks in Knoxville area?

« on: April 02, 2007, 12:20:25 AM »
Is there or interest in an active (air cooled) VW club in the Knoxville area? I live just south of Knoxville in the adjoining county of Loudon.

After talking to VW owners at Circle Your Wagens in Sevierville and Knoxville, it is my understanding that Appalachian Volkswagen Association (AVWA) sponsors Circle Your Wagens but is not a club; National Street Volkswagen Association is just an old webpage on Hemmings. The closest clubs are yours in Chattanooga (Scenic City Volks Folks); and Kingsport (Good Ole Volks Unlimited).

I have owned several VW's air cooled Beetles in the US and Germany and owned a Rabbit, Rabbit Pick-Up, a Golf and two Porche 912's. I have had (air cooled) Beetle fever for some time now.

Without a local club, it would not be as much fun and no fellowship or tech advice and help.

I'm always suprised that there isn't a active A.C. VW club in Knoxville. I know its a "haul" to Chattanooga , but you would be welcomed to join with us. At least "Help" is a click away and the forum is fun.
Be sure to join us at B-P 9

Thanks. Hopefully there will be enough response to start one.

I'm not sure what happened to the NSVWA . . . they had one of the biggest shows around for several years when I was first getting into VWs.  After their show in 2001 they fell off the face of the earth.  I'm sure some of the folks that were involved are still around and would love to get something going again.

We have a few folks that visit the forums from up in that neck of the woods . . . hopefully they will contact you.  You might try posting on the Southeastern VW Forum ( it's on http://www.shoptalkforums.com ) or the forums on http://www.thesamba.com .  Our club got started though a post on a VW forum and about a dozen of us got together at the local VW dealership one evening . . . and the rest is history.   8)  Good luck getting something going up there!  Let us know if we can help.

We live in Tellico Village which is just the other side of the Tennessee River from Lenoir City.

Do we have the start of a club to meet in Lenoir City?  :o

Morgan County, Loudon County, now Monroe County, and I am sure there are potential members in Knox County.

Do we have the start of a club or chapter of SCVF to meet in Lenoir City?  :o

Yes. My Bus is at Larry's Hot VW's (a.k.a. Speedshop) in Harriman and may not be fixed by then. I will will be wearing a blue ball cap that says U.S. Coast Guard Retired. Will you be there all weekend? We were going to camp Saturday and Sunday but without the Bus, we will just come up for a day.

I hope that's a good recommendation. The mechanic who was going to fix my Bus took another job where he can only work on the vehicles they sell (JB Byrider). He recommended Larry. The first mechanic thinks it is only a head gasket so should only be $250. Larry is not saying what it is yet so cost is unknown.
