On the Hunt for Trailer Tire and Rims

« on: November 30, 2017, 01:28:43 AM »
Hello everyone.  I am the owner of a 1980 Germain Le Jour trailer that I am using to pull my wheelchair behind my Can Am Spyder motorcycle.  I want to get a spare set of tires and rims for this trailer and am having one heck of a time locating anything close.    In my search, I saw that one or two of the members here had one of these trailers so I am hoping to get pointed in the right direction.

The rims say: E-DOT 2,50-C-8.  The tires are 3.50-8.  I would appreciate any and all help with this.  Without new rubber, I am severely limited as to where I can go on my bike right now.  Thank you

If I recall correctly, Zen had one of these trailers before his garage fire. He found replacement tires in the correct size through one of our other members who ran a scooter shop at the time. I believe the 3.50X8.00 size is correct for some scooter tires. I recently bought tires for my scooter and they were around $30/ each. Look for the older Vespa 150 or 125 tires. Be forewarned that they scooter tires have a radius on the tread to help with turned a 2 wheeled vehicle, whereas typical car and trailer tires have flat tread. I don't believe this should be an issue, but just wanted to let you know. Since Hugh and Kathy have retired from scooters, I would check out scooter mercato's website or they can weigh in with their input.

Wow . . . I can't believe it's been that long since I logged into the forums.  I'm just now seeing this.  I had one of those trailers, but as Nick said, it was destroyed in my garage fire.  Hugh at Scenic City Scooters had the correct size tires for the trailer.  Mine were good, but he sold a set to someone else who was looking for some.  The downside to them is their size.  They turn really high RPMs at relatively low speeds.  I think the scooter tires are rated for 45 or 50 MPH.  They would probably be ok for slightly faster speeds for limited distances.  As Nick also mentioned, Hugh and Kathy have closed their shop in Red Bank and retired, and Hugh passed away a couple of months ago.
