I hate to see them go. As much as I prefer Hot VW's I think Trends had several aspects in which they were superior. I hope German Addiction succeeds.

:( I hate to see it go to a degree. But we did not renew the subscription when it ran out over a year ago. The magazine had been on a down hill slide for a while.

I will say that I applaude Kathy Jacobs for the fantastic job she has done and still does to promote the VW scene in the Southeast. She was the first person we met connected with any of the magazines when our car was finished. We owe Kathy, Dave Cormack and VW Trends a thank you for the article on "Copper Jewel." So regardless of how things have turned out with the magazine there are some great memories and some wonderful articles.

I really hate to see them go under too, even though I wrote them a few months ago and told them they could stop wasting their money on postage and throw my magazines in the trash at their place.

It wasn't that many years ago that Trends was my favorite.  They were first to venture outside of Southern California and give some exposure to the Southeastern US.  They had lots of good tech articles and lots of good features.  But somewhere along the way they just lost it.  Dave left and the TOTALLY CLUELESS Ryan Price put it in an unrecoveralble nose dive!  I was really hoping that someone would figure out what the problem was (is) and can Mr. Price while it was still salvagable.  Oh well, R.I.P. VW Trends.   :-({|=

Just got this month's Hot VWs.  It's about ten pages short of ads this month.     I guess things are tough all over!
I hope G. A. does well, too.  They could do a great resto series on a certain panel bus! (hint!)

Hey , When does G.A. go to press ? Im all for someone doing a running resto artical on Anthony`s Kombi. Its a unsual "critter" that a lot of "experts" have heard of ,but not seen before. If I know Anthony, this gem will be restored back to its orginal but humble beginings. At least I hope so. Im sorry, but Im "Old School" and Im growing a little tired of looking at  so called restoration projects that are Slamed Dunked, chopped, or whatever the terms they use today. Arggggg!!!

I call it the "East Ridge Look"

I'm thinking of going with the period delivery truck look with something painted on the side (not vinyl graphics-just wouldn't look right).

60's Chattanooga (I forget the name) musical instrument dealer?
60's Chattanooga VW dealer? (Southland?)
60's Western Auto, Cross City, Fla (my Grandfather's old store-he didn't have any delivery trucks, though)

I'm suspicious that it might have been a fire or emergency vehicle (it's ruby red and it had some kind of three-holed mounts drilled on each side of the front roof)  Go back to that?

Any other ideas?

The one music dealer that I can remember was Al Miller on Cherry St. in the 50s and 60s .Later moved out on Lee Hi-wy. Gone now. There was 3-4 music stores on Cherry at that time. I belive they stuck to band instruments mostly. Your kind of stuff.
Southland VW had a 62 single cab PU all white ,Logo on side standards and doors.  They also had a `64  window " shuttle bus" blue bottom ,white top w/ dealer logo on the sides. Somewhere I have copy of that logo showing how the lettering was laid out. I don`t think they ever had a Kombi that I can recall.
Brainerd Cleaners had a fleet of double doors that I kept up while at Southland.  Central Pluming(59 d.d. orange) Reid House Sandwich co. (fleet) I could go on and on.
Fire truck would be nice but, What about rounding up "stuff" to go in it ?

I haven't had anything to say here about VWT going under but I suppose I will step forward and add my 2 cents. I despise what Ryan Price did to what WAS a good magazine. Thinking back a few short years, VW Trends was the basic magazine of choice over Hot VWs but after Mr. Price took over the helm, he headed on a collision course with a rocky shore and even though there were warnings issued by the readers he continued, Full Steam Ahead!!!!!   Alas.................he has ran the ship aground.

I sincerely hate to see us loose a Volkswagen magazine but my subscription had ran out and I was not going to renew it as long as Ryan Price was the "editor". I simply can't understand why the owners didn't read the writting on the wall, fire him and put someone in there who would have turned the magazine around. Oh well!!!!

Here is a New Years toast to German Addiction Magazine :occasion5: . May you prosper in the coming new year and live long.

ps.....G.A., learn from VWTs mistakes.

Wow, that's some great info!  I'd love to see the Southland layout!
I wonder if Brainerd Cleaners has any photos of those busses?
I'd never do an Al Miller bus.  The SOB (RIP) threatened a lawsuit against Hamilton County Schools because band directors were using and recommending specific music dealers that weren't his.  As a result, we couldn't have dealers make calls to the school or help us with tryouts, etc.  I had the other music dealer's name written down, but can't find it now.  I'll just ask around again like I did last time.
As to fire truck stuff, I probably wouldn't go much farther than lights, siren, and logos.  There's stuff on eBay and JC Whitney.  My big question is how legal is it to drive around looking like a fire truck?  Might have to cover the lights or something.

Anthony, Does the name Dearing(?) mean anything to you ? Al Miller was a "peckerwood" to all of us "Horizontal String Beaters" There was a music store on Dodds Ave. that catered to us.  Tani Allen Music Co.  Landsford Piano Co.  , Kelly Piano,How about Bailey Music Co,619 CherrySt. Conn Band Inst-Pan American-Leedy-Lugwig.(O.J. Bailey).
I really don`t think that you would have a problem with looking like a Fire support truck unless you have a real "Jones" about  riding around with blazing red lights and screaming sirens. That would be way to much fun, consequently illegal as all fun things to do are.
I will look for the Southland VW logo. I may have a photo of the truck, but don`t hold your breath. As I remember, it looked alot like the sticker we put on the deck lids of new VWs but about 4ft to 5ft. long.
