I believe they were sold with a golf or something that had a built in amp in the back hatch. It allowed you to plug into the car and play through the car's sound system. It was a sales gimmick. I'm not sure how well it worked.

I think there was a commercial with Slash playing it or something

I see them on the Atl CL from time to time for ~$100 to $120.
i have thought about getting one, but like you I do not play.
Most have been played now, but a few show up as new.
I believe they had a plate on the back of the neck that matched the VIN on the car that it came with.
(edit you can see this on the back of the head in one of the photos)
It is cool, but an undervalued trinket now.  In a decade or 2 it will have way more value in my opinion (but only if still with the car it was purchased with...).

We had them at the dealer,  you could plug it up to the car and play though the radio.

Thanks for the comments.  I think if you had the car and guitar it might be of interest but probably not just the guitars.  Looking forward to bugapulaza.  Hope to meet some of you there.  I met David there last year and that was  when I started reading the forums here.  I wish I had taken the opportunity to get to know him better while I could.  He really impressed me as a super nice guy and talked with me like he had known me my entire life.  Sorry to get off on a tangent there.

On the guitar neck it has First Act.   Which in my opinion is the lowest china made guitar.  Sold at Walmart in the toy section

somebody told me that anything new that is claimed to be "collectable" won't be .   looks like that might be the case with this other than it is VW which is always somewhat "collectable" for me

Give it 50 years when everyone tossed theirs ,  the vw beetle Lego set was 120 new. Discontinued it and now it's worth 600, wish I would have bought one 6 years ago

It was a marketing deal to draw attention to the fact that VW finally installed a generic 1/8" audio input jack in their cars.

There was also a commercial with Slash playing the guitar using stacks of cars instead of amps.

A friend gave me one five years ago. I do not play, but love any kind of VW swag.
