More getting done... had a few moments and an open lift after work Thursday afternoon....  Trans. pan off to check, looks really nice inside.  Removed the fuel tank, driveshaft, exhaust, and the trans to clear the way for the body work.  The car left on a rollback for my house this morning.  Once the bus I am working on is done, in comes the Savoy.   ;D

Oh, and the fuel tank was SUPER clean inside.  Was a big surprise actually.   8)

They did a really nice job for me, as always.  They:

- Hot-tanked the block, cleaned out the oil galleys, re-installed the plugs
- Installed new freeze plugs
- Replaced the cam bearings
- Cleaned up the rods, removed the old pistons, and installed my NOS pistons
- Bored out the cylinder openings .030" and honed the cylinders.

Those Guys always did a good job from what I have heard.

Been spending my lunches doing  some engine work.  The block was fresh from the machine shop, but I blew through the coolant passages and that helped to knock loose the remaining rust scale in there.  Also, I had previously cleaned off the crankshaft, but hadn't done a real thorough job with it.  Ran a bore brush through the oil holes.  Yuck.... Got the crank clean and lovely, installed it with some new main bearings, installed new rings on the NOS oversized pistons, rods assembled with new bearings, and bolted up to the crank, and the camshaft installed.  Removed the rocker shafts from the heads last night late, and loaded them in the trunk. They are off to Roberts and Sons today for a hot-tank treatment.  Now I just have lots of little bits to clean up.... moving along well... pics:

Got one head rebuit at work, but then got side-tracked with another air-cooled engine rebuild....

When I got the heads back from cleaning, I found that the exhaust seats were pounded out pretty well, and fairly heavily pitted.  So, I re-cut the valve seats (which are simply machined surfaces on the cast iron head) cleaned up the valves, springs, and keepers, re-cut the valve surfaces, and lapped them in.  Installed new valve stem seals, Reassembled the head, passenger side, started cleaning up the pieces for the driver's side.... Still working on the bus at the house, so the only work that's happening on this thing right now happens at work, during my lunch breaks.

A couple of pics:

Been sidetracked with David's engine, but had a little time to spend on mine...

Got the new timing chain installed... that mad a BIG difference.  The old one was literally slapping around on the gears... Got the valve job done on the other head, the rockers were all stuck and wouldn't move on the shafts when I first started messing with the engine... I found ALL of the oil holes clogged with oil scale.  Pulled the plugs from the end of the rocker shafts, forced all the nasty stuff out of them... that was gross.... Cleaned them up nice and pretty, installed new expansion plugs, then reassembled the rocker arms (also plugged oil holes) and springs back on to the heads.

Two nice, clean, rebuilt heads ready to bolt back up to the block....  8)
