Well, it's official.. the old gal is in dry dock status.  Drove it around a little yesterday at lunchtime, and the brakes are now entirely gone.... about 6 pumps and she starts to slow, but that's about it.  Hope to start getting the engine and trans out in the next couple  of weeks, we'll see.  Trying to finish what i gots at the house first so i will have an empty garage to take her home to.

Been tinkering steadily with this old gal at work during lunch, before and after work... have made huge improvements in a short period of time....

The more i havelet the engine run, it's like it's coming back to life all on it's own... smoother running, less smoking... running really smooth now.  Got the radiator to a shop to be re-cored (had at minimum 3 pinholes spitting coolant out of it) .... 54 year old mopar + copper core that has to be custom made = lotso $$$....  Oh, well.  I knew that brakes and cooling system would be the worst part to deal with after 18 years of minimal driving followed by 18 years of no driving....   ::)

While the radiator was out (should have it back, all bright and shiny this week some time)  got the thermostat out, flushed out the block, gonna get the water pump off too, and make sure it's clean, then put it all back together with clean hoses....

Then, deciding to just drive it for a bit... a decision i went back and forth on about 20 times... wanted to make the body look a little less ridiculous (but not a full on primer bath either, since whatever i do now will be undone 6 months from now... spent about an hour-and-half masking a few things, then shot a little dark gray primer on the body, and it looks A LOT BETTER NOW.  Best $25 i ever spent.  I didn't even wash off the bird doo.   :D

Behold...

And, a few in the open...  8)

Got the grille the other day from the previous owner.  Can't wait to get the nose put back together, think that will help a lot as well...  8)

Drove her back around to start into the brakes and finish up the cooling system.  I can only wonder what sort of adventures await my wallet before these items can be checked off of the list...  ::)

As she sits this morning, caps back on, along with the fender spears, and the re-installed grille and front panels.  I am VERY glad they are as nice condition as they are.  Saves my money for the radiator....  :-[

Unbolted the water pump today and flushed out the block.  Nasty stuff still in there too.  It was time well spent.  I was, however secretly dreading what the heater core was like after seeing the rest of the goop.  the heter valve was closed.  So, I opened it, then started sending the water through the inlet and was greeted with super clear, bright yellow green coolant.  Thank heavens for small favors.  Got a call from the radiator shop.  Mine is ready to be picked up.  I'll get that tomorrow on the way in to work, get it and the water pump bolted up, along with the new hoses, then  it's on to the brakes.   8)
