I just ordered enough parts to double my investment in this project.  I've got a used breather, a new complete gasket set, a new correct 1/2" thread spark plug, a new crankshaft seal and a rebuilt crankshaft/crankcase heading my way.  The next sunny evening after work, I'll tear it down and start cleaning it up.   ;D

I'll probably need some crankshaft shims, but I'll wait and measure my end-play before I start ordering shims.  It would be nice to have a selection of shims on-hand, but at about 4 buck each, it's an expensive option unless you were rebuilding these things on a regular basis.  Then there's the spark thing.  It could be simple and cheap . . . or not.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the magnet and coil are both good.  We'll see.  Soon.

You didn't check for spark? Rookie!!! Thats the first thing I did. I used my little harbor freight inline spark checker and confirmed spark.

It was complete, I didn't see any cracks or breaks, it turned over and had compression . . . you can't ask for much more at that price except maybe they just give it to you!   :D ;D

I think I'll opt for the rebuilt crankcase/crankshaft rather than trying to replace the bushings myself.

does that mean that there will be one available for sale shortly? or does it get returned as a core?

I also found the training wheels for this bike today too!
Good. That will make it easier for you to learn how to ride.

Nick, What little gas engine did you end up with ?    What was the little steam engine brand ?    They must have sold all of the really good "hit & miss" engines.

The big hit & miss engines were still there with high price tags. I ended up with a 1936 Briggs and Stratton Model Y. The steam engine is a toy and appears to be missing a lot of parts. I'll have to look at it in a bit and see what brand it is.

Bring your little steam engine to the meeting. Love to see it. I use to collect them. Sold them all a long time ago. But I still have a early '40's 1 hp Briggs and a Stuart-Turner Oscillator 1 cly.marine engine and boiler.

I'll throw it in the truck then!

I plan on bringing the B&S with me tonight.

Real men don't need a Harbor Freight spark checker.  We just hold the wire, touch a good ground and spin it over.  Gets your electronic trouble shooting and electro shock theropy out of the way at one time . . . unless, of course, you don't have a spark.   ::)

I went back today to see what they had. They had one more B&S with a pump attached for $125 marked down from $400. It looked good, but I was happy with my little engine.

I picked up a few more goodies and headed back to work just a few minutes late from lunch! I checked with them about Joy's little figurine that she left with her name on it, but they had put it back and sold it yesterday.

saw this on the way back!
