Now you're using a Dasher to make ice cream? What a great idea!

NOT this Dasher:

Here's my accumlation of various ice cream freezer parts.  The green bucket is in better shape than the blue one, but I can't find a canister to fit it.  I can't find a crank that will lock down to the blue bucket.  I can see a trend here . . . This is how I started trying to put ONE VW Beetle together for Justin 17 or 18 years ago.  I ended up with over 20 VWs in my back yard at one point . . . and never had more than two on the road at any given time.

I've found about 8 of them that still exist . . . including the two you own.  And thought Maytags were rare!   :o  You need to get yours running!

My Maytag was priced at $160. Guess that was a bargin.  A twin cylinder Maytag just sold on eBay for almost $1,500!   :o

It wasn't a washing machine motor, it was a running a small generator.  I think Maytag made these for the military during WWII, and they are pretty rare . . . but it's still a twin cylinder Maytag.  As a generator, it's not going to power much more than a few lights.  $1,500 is crazy!!!

Can't be overloaded . . . it's only got about 20 HP worth of engines on it!

I ran a couple of tanks of gas through my Maytag at Swap-A-Paluza, and with the help of William, Randal and Chuck, I got my White Mountain Ice Cream Freezer in working order.  To make it look pretty, I still need to strip the old paint off the wood bucket and repaint it (I have a feeling one or two layers of the paint may be lead based), and weld up and install the lower replacement ring we made (the original had rusted away).

Now I just have to figure out how to hook the two of them together.  The Maytag is supposed to run about 1050 RPM.  I'm guessing I need to run the freezer at about 30 RPM.  If I did the math right, that's about 35:1.  Anybody have a small 35:1 speed reduction gearbox laying around?   8)

I can rig something up using a jack shaft.  I can use the small pulley on the engine to drive a big pulley on one side of the jack shaft and have a small pulley on the other side driving a big pulley on the freezer . . . but that requires a lot of math to figure out exactly what size pulleys to use.  A gear box would really simplify things.

But, I've looked at the price of new gear boxes . . . I really doubt that even with the Shaw discount it would make it cheap enough for me to justify buying a new gear box.  I'm hoping to find a used one somewhere.  If that doesn't pan out soon, I'll try Motion.  I kind'a got a feeling I'll end up with two belts, 4 pulleys and a jack shaft.

Old Fords and Chevys (Think 1950's) had a bolt on overdrive unit.
It was smaller than a shoebox and might be of some help.

Gear reduction box from a splittie?
VW trans? (4 speeds of ice cream perfection...
Just a thought.

Yeah, use a vw transmission... Just take a stub axle and bolt it to the output cup on an old IRS. Tack weld or slide a pulley onto the end. Then you take a old clutch disc and affix a pulley to it and slip it over the input shaft with a cotterpin to hold it on. Get a buggy shifter kit and you'd be golden!!!

You could have 4 speeds plus a few extra clutch discs with extra pulleys affixed for more variation.

or, you could find the cone pulleys from the top of a drill press and make those work!
