It was almost too dark to video this by the time the rain stopped, but I tried it anyway.  The only two things I have left to do is put a new decal on the kick start cover (I ruined the other one in one of my attempst to paint the Maytag script on the cover) and get a hub for my pulley and install it.

Nick . . . I've been searching EVERYWHERE for a flywheel for Johnson Utilimotor.  I thought if I could find an unbroken flywheel, I'd make you an offer on at least one of your engines.  Well, after much research, here's what I've concluded.  YOU own a significant percentage of the worlds existing Johnson Utilimotors!  It would be shame to part BOTH of them out.  You really need to get one of them running.   8)

I finally had a chance to drag the engine out during daylight hours and get a decent video of it.  This is after I adjusted the governor to slow it down a little.  It usually starts on the first or second kick . . . but I had the camera rolling so of course it didn't seem to want to start.   :D

I bought a reproduction hub and installed an original pulley on it.  This evening I ran across a old White Mountain ice cream freezer that someone had just listed on eBay with a LOW "Buy It Now" price . . . so I "Bought It Now!"

Now . . . come up with a cart to hold these two items, find a big V-Belt pulley to replace the crank handle on the ice cream freezer, find the right size belt . . . and then go shopping for high fat heavy whipping cream and some fresh strawberrys (and whatever else goes in ice cream).

Ret.Bugtech . . . get out your favorite spoon.  It won't be long now!   ;D

I gave the Maytag a long test run earlier today . . . it ran for over an hour without overheating or any other problems.  When you press against the running flywheel, it starts hitting at a much faster rate, so I don't forsee any problems once it's hooked to the ice cream freezer.

Speaking of that . . . I just found a big box sitting on the front porch. I opened it and found a green wooden bucket, a metal canister with a heavy duty lid, some kind of paddles and a crank handle.   ;D  I've got to do just a little repair work and it will be ready for a manual test run.  What's your first choice of flavors David?

The crank handle doesn't attach like I thought it would.  I'm going to have to re-think my plans for trasmitting power from the Maytag to the ice cream churn.   ??? :-\ ;) ;D

Put down your spoons for a while.  I just figured out that this crank does not fit this bucket.  Back to eBay for more parts . . .  ::)

These seems like a much easier and cheaper way to enjoy ice cream... I always got the impression you were lazy...but I guess you occasionally like to do things the hard way and take the road less traveled!  ;D ;D ;D

Soft-Serve is a decent treat, but REAL ice cream comes out of a rusty can that's been spinning in the middle of a wooden bucket full of ice and salt water.  And I am lazy.  That's why I'm replacing the hand crank with an engine.   ;D

I don't know.  Not only am I lazy, I'm cheap.  So, I've been trying to put together and "restore" a vintage ice cream freezer to keep from spending the $150 - $200 that a nice, complete one that doesn't need work seems to be bringing.  I got one cheap with all the parts.  Joy reminded me that I had a wooden bucket and crank handle on the porch at the cabin.  The canister and dasher that came with the complete one works with both crank handles.  Neither handle would work with either bucket.   ???  So, I went back to eBay and placed a few bids on some older style handles.  Then I found one that was cheap and "Buy it Now."  Then I won one of the auctions I forgot I was bidding on.
So now I have TWO wooden buckets.  They have different latch systems and one is a couple of inches shorter than the other.
I have FOUR crank handles.  All four will work with the ONE canister and dasher I have, but only one will latch to one of the buckets . . . and it's the shorter one . . . and the canister is about 2 inches too tall.   >:(
From what I can figure out by the markings on all of these parts, they are ALL "White Mountain Freezer" brand parts, and all but one crank handle are for the 4 quart size . . . but they've been making 'em for over 100 years and apparently, the parts changed slightly a few times over they years.  But I'll get it sorted out eventually.

Now you're using a Dasher to make ice cream? What a great idea!
