I had to order a new pin and roller for the governor.  :-\  The roller on mine was toast.  I'll check out the governor on the spare flywheel I bought after I get home from the cruise-in tonight . . . if that one is decent, I'll use it to get this thing fired up.  If that one is bad too I guess it will be next weekend before I attempt to start it.  If I can't get it running this weekend, I'll start building a cart for it.  Last night, Nick shared an idea for some cool wheels that I think just might work.  8)

:(  That didn't turn out so well.  Shop tip for today - don't try to paint after dark.  ;D

Merle Haggard once said "The Women look better after closing time".  At least you have more paint and maybe another worm in the cactus juice . 8)

To steal a line that Scott Swafford posted on Facebook the other day, "If I had a dollar for every time I got distracted . . . I want a puppy."  OK, back to my Maytag project . . .

I took a few minutes this evening to put to use all the knowledge I've gained about Maytag 92 ignition systems from watching "Shopdogsam" videos on youtube.  Apparently I learned SOMETHING . . . this thing with shoot a bright blue spark across the plug when I spin it over by hand.  The spark happens a few degrees before it crosses top dead center.

It has great compression.  I has a great spark at aproximatly the correct time.  All that's left is to fill it with the correct gas/oil mix and see if the mixer (carborator) is good.  I'll try to fire it up tomorrow evening.   ;D

Now I know how Dr. Frankenstine felt when lightning struck the kites and Egore threw the switches!!!!   It's ALIVE!!!!!  :o ;D :D ;D :o I ran in the house and got my camera, set it video and hit the record button . . . The engine is alive, but my camera battery is dead.  Dag-nabit!!!   :-\

If I can find my camera charger, I'll post a video of the thing running tomorrow.

I have an original mufler attached to about 3 feet of original flexible exhaust pipe . . . but I can't find it anywhere. :-\  It's pretty loud with an open manifold.  If I can't locate my exhaust soon, I'm going to try to adapt a Beetle mufler tip to it.   8)

Great !!   Now off to find a ice cream maker.  I have seen Briggs mufflers on those things. It doesn't take long to see where you rate in a group while running a Maytag without a Muff. ;D ;D

Found it! It was on the first page of this thread, in the back of Joy's car!  ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, I bet that would make you a lot of friends!  Without a muffler it sounds like a sick Harley with straight pipes.   :D   I found the exhaust and bolted it on.  It's still a little loud, but MUCH better than an open manifold!  I still can't find the charger or the two spare batteries I have for my camera, so I made a short video with my cell phone.  The quality isn't great, but it's the best I have right now.  I can't figure out how to embed a video, so if you want to see/hear it, open the file below . . .

But on page 9 of this thread it was under the tarp that's over my industrial sewing machine!  Now it's bolted on the engine.

ooooooohhhhhh looooook!!!!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Johnson-Utilimotor-Washing-Machine-Engine-/290919303675?hash=item43bc2449fb

I have 2 of them!!! I hope it sells!

If you still have them this fall, there is a big antique engine and tractor show in Calhoun, GA in October.  I think the club that sponsors it (Gordon County Antique Engine and Tractor Club) is kind'a heavy on the Tractors and not so much on the Antique Engines, but when I was looking through their pictures of past shows, I did spot several washing machine engines in the background of some of the pictures.  That might be a good place locally to find them a home.  David and I talked about going to it last year, but like a lot of my other good intentions, talking about it is as far as it got.
