1989 Waverunner

« on: May 23, 2014, 12:22:03 AM »
I picked up a car top carrier to put on a little trailer to pull behind my bus. Unfortunately, I didn't have a trailer yet. I contemplated the "flexy flier" from harbor freight since its only ~$135 on sale. I thought I'd check Craigslist and see about a small trailer that was sturdier. I came across a jet ski trailer that was affordable and seemed to fit the bill. Needed trailer lights and eventually tires. The only catch was that the buyer had to deal with the jet ski that was sitting on it. I texted the guy but it was spoken for. That evening he said the guy didn't come get it so it was mine if I wanted it. I went and picked it up and almost passed because the jet ski looked like too much to deal with, even if I was just going to cut it up and scrap the engine.

I got up on Sunday to see about dismantling the thing and decided, what the heck, I'll put jumper cables on it and see if it will turn over. Check! Then I dribbled some premix down the carb. Vroom! Holy cow it runs! I swapped a good battery in and checked the fuel lines. It was running with only a battery within the hour. I took it to the boat ramp to see how it'd pull under load. With it still strapped to the trailer, it was nudging the truck and pullig hard. I got it registered and paid taxes on it, but I don't have my numbers on it yet.

I ended up cleaning it up and painting the topside. I recovered the seat that had split open.  This thing is starting to look pretty good!

Now I need a trailer for my car top carrier...

What do you expect for a free-be?  Rub a little lindseed oil on it.  It'll be fine.   ;D

There I was in the middle of Harrison bay. Just sitting, waiting to get towed back in. She ran great for about 10 minutes and then crapped out. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. Anyone want a jet ski? It needs carb work and ran when I parked in the middle of the bay!

I have pieces of a trailer.  David and I were going to build one to pull behind Albert.  If you want to come by and look, you are welcome.  Lamar is going to come by next weekend and help me sort through a few things.  If you want to wait until then, come on by.  Linda

Does anyone have a 3" dingleberry hone for another jet ski project?!? I just want to rough up the cylinder a bit

When I rebuilt my Maytag engine, I used a wheel cylinder hone.  With it all the out, it barely touched the cylinder walls, but it was enough to break the glaze.

I found one today! All is good, except the new rings didn't help my stand up jet ski...
