guys i need to know what the hell is going on with my car, i was told that it could be a faulty egr valve but how do you test? it is a 1990 VW golf 1.8l 8v? i need this car running very soon to get back and fourth to work please someone help me!!!!!
here is what it is doing - when you first crank the car it is good until it warms up then the car gets a funny idle jumping and wonts to die but if up give it throttle it fine until it gets figity and then it wonts to bog down, when your driving the car it just losses power and wonts to die and if you start it back up it will do the funny idle thing and then when you try to pull of the car will bog down again? what the hell is going on please i need help. you can easily push the gas and eventually get it going but only to be stopped by the bogging down.  i need to know what the hell is going on!!!!!!!!!!

yikes.... settle down, dude... try the ects (electronic coolant temp sensor).
If that's not it, fuel delivery problem.... could either be starving for gas or getting way too much.  the ect sensors are prone to failure that causes lots of weird running issues.

Disconnect the Oxygen sensor and see if the problem goes away.  The O2 sensor isn't active when the engine is cold so if it's faulty it could lead to a problem when the engine is warm.

Forgot about that one too... we used to fix a lot of running rough problems by disconnecting the o2 sensor and leaving it undone.....

Of course, if you need to pass the local Hamilton County Emissions test, that would not work out so good....
