Hi guys! new member here,
I have a 78 transporter hippy bus with a late 60's 1600 bug engine. I bought a solex brazil 30 pict 3 carb and it worked fine for a couple of months, but I let the bus sit over the winter and now itll crank and rev fine but when i let off the gas pedal it dies.
I adjusted the valves, put in new plugs and wires, removed the carb and cleaned it by removing the top and ran tiny wire into the jets and sprayed it with starter fluid, didnt see any ethanol buildup.
I ran the smaller idle screw in til it stopped and backed it out 2.5 turns, then the bigger idle screw inwards til it stopped and back out about 2 turns, and adjusted the screw that touches the choke cam until it touched and a quarter turn extra. ill be checking the timing tomorrow with a timing light, but for now it just wont idle! It idles when first cranked until it warms up and the choke cam drops to the open position then it will die unless i keep pressing the accelerator
the bigger idle adjustment screw doesnt seem to effect the idle but its hard to tell since i have to rev the engine as im back there trying to turn the screw. I also added 4 gallons of fresh gas and an ounce or so of lucas ethanol engine treatment and changed the oil. Anyone have any ideas as to what i might try next to get it to idle? thanks for any info!
